Ticagrelor is used to prevent heart attacks and strokes by reducing the risk of subsequent events. As an antiplatelet medication, it prevents platelets from clumping together, which decreases harmful blood clot formation. Common side effects include nausea, dizziness, vertigo, increased uric acid levels, shortness of breath, gout, headache, fainting, hypotension, ECG changes, and elevated creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels.
